Big Changes Coming to Manvel High School Manvel High School could soon have a dance gym, a culinary lab and much more space for hands-on career classes. Houston based PBK Architects presented early designs for the school's expansion to the Alvin ISD board of trustees at its Oct. 20 meeting. The plans would grow the school's career and technical education (CTE) area with spaces for robotics, floral design, agricultural mechanics, and welding, construction and automotive classes. Health science classrooms would also be renovated and connected so students in different classes can work together more easily. The design also aims to make getting to and from school smoother. Parents and buses would each have their own drop-off routes, and a walking path would be built for students who live in the Bluewater Lakes and Valencia neighborhoods. No new general parking is planned, but new lots would be added to serve the expanded CTE area. Special education classrooms would also get bigger and include their own restrooms and kitchen spaces. The project is paid for by the bond program voters approved in 2024. That bond sets aside $144 million to fix aging buildings and add room at existing campuses, including Alvin High School and Manvel High School. It also includes $225 million for new schools, such as two elementary schools, a new junior high and a replacement for Walt Disney Elementary. The architects said the Manvel High designs are still preliminary and will keep changing as planning continues.
