The Delores Fenwick Nature Center (DFNC) has taken a big step toward becoming a social and education destination for community members with the new addition of a three-wall mural at the center of the building's interactive space.

Drawing visitors' eyes up nearly thirty feet, this colorful statement brings the building's "Great Room" to life with artistic and engaging imagery. Guests walking in will be greeted not only by a customer service representative but by the images of a Roseate Spoonbill, smiling Green Tree Frogs, and a hatching American Alligator, all of which can be found in or around the Delores Fenwick Nature Center and John Hargrove Environmental Complex.
The mural will bring an energy to the Nature Center that will only be amplified as more educational exhibits are placed throughout the building. The painting was executed by Galveston-based artist, Gabriel Prusmack, who specializes in professional aerosol art and paints his projects by hand with spray paint. Gabriel put his own style to the piece to create a one-of-a-kind mural for our newest City facility.
The new facility is located at 5750 Magnolia Parkway in the John Hargrove Environmental Complex (JHEC), which currently houses the Stella Roberts Recycling Center, Keep Pearland Beautiful, a JHEC Water Treatment Plant and a recently completed trail system. Exterior construction of the new building was completed in August 2018 and crews are hard at work on interior design and placement of exhibits. The brand new building features an open-air pavilion and an abundance of space for future environmental educational displays, demonstration gardens, a tree farm and interpretive exhibits. There is even an on-site classroom laboratory and teaching platform.
Included in the City's Capital Improvement Program and approved in the bond election of 2007, the $3 million facility will provide education to residents on the benefits of green space, preservation of flora and fauna and local ecological systems while promoting outdoor recreation and overall healthy living.
