My step-mom used the ice cubes, no potato.
On another note, I used to get a sty quite frequently. My step-mom used to cut the end of a potato then scrape the "milk" and would tape it to my eye with some gauze. When I woke up in the morning, it was usually gone. Miracle cure!

Great! Yes, my Mom tried to re-pierce my ears with ice and a needle. Never again!

@Patty18 : A sign of the times. Needle piercing was an activity on a Friday night sleepover.
My mom was upset about it.

Once in a hurry, I did have to re-do one of mine. They used to grow up pretty quickly, and I was going to a wedding. Ear rings would not go through. I was in a hurry, so just grabbed a large needle and "fixed them."

All my friends did the summer between 5th and 6th grade. It took me a few more years to convince my mom, but I went to Claire's, so she could gauge my reaction before getting her own done.

@Patty18: No, but they had self piercing earrings that my friends put on my ears that slowly pierced them. I had to squeeze them to speed it up some. Alcohol was the antiseptic!!
