Amy Bit Me Sunday morning, around 6, Amy decided she wanted a snack. She tried to just nudge me awake. When that didn't work, she bit my arm, twice. I did get up then, and fed the brat. I washed the arm, and put antibiotic on it. Needless to say, yesterday found me in the drs office. A injection, two weeks of Clavamox, a month of probiotics, and if it gets any worse go to a hospital emergency room for IV antibiotics. I really didn't know how dangerous cat bites can be, like, lose your arm serious. I guess I am going to really have to try to watch her closer, she is getting very grumpy, and of course is spoiled. My family is talking about maybe euthanizing her, but I am just not ready for that. I do know I am going to have to be much more careful with her. One look through information about cat bites let me know I do not need or want another one, and this is the second one in less than a year. IF you are considering adopting an exotic or even exotic mix cat, I encourage you to look at the damage a bite can do. The last time I was at the dr? October last year. Reason? Cat bite. After all my research, I don't plan on replacing her. It is just too risky.

@susieq: Poor Amy, she was only trying to get her point across about wanting a snack. I didn't know cat bites could land you in the doctors or the hospital. I pray all goes well and you recover quickly. Take care of yourself and Amy too.❤️

@NannyB :
Most people don't know. I didn't know. Yes, I knew it could be bad, but amputation? It can make you rethink having a cat. She will be my last.
Thank you for you kind words. I have been up a while, feeding Amy, of course. She is now taking a nap, soon to be followed by another feeding.

@susieq: Oh no, so sorry!! My family has never experienced that. They usually adopt a Tabby or the orange cats. I don't blame you for being skeptical though!! I want nothing biting me!

@CjMullen3702 :
Amy is a Maine Coon/Bengal mix. She is 13 now, and I guess getting grumpy. Not my first bite, but the worst. The dr said with a cat bite, "don't wait. Go to an emergency room with a hospital, so you can get IV antibiotics. " This is the 3rd bite from her, two in less than a year.

@CjMullen3702 :
ALL cats carry a bacteria in their mouth that can cause pretty serious infections. Because their teeth are thin, and sharp, it is almost like an injection. A scratch, while still dangerous, is not as bad as a bite. Look up cat bites and treatment, it will make you look at cats in a whole new way.

@CjMullen3702 :
Yes, they are large. Her dad was huge, mom was on the smaller side. Amy is down to around 12 - 13 pounds now. She was 16 to 18 in her younger days. I have a friend who had 3 Bengals, and they destroyed so much in her house. 3 sofas, carpets, beds, she is over exotics now. I took Amy because she would have gone to a shelter. I had just lost my other Maine Coon, and she had the same coloring. She was precious as a kitten, but as she aged, she did change. She is very selective in who is allowed to touch her(me, sometimes, and once in a while my husband.} Obviously she can do some damage if she wants to. I love her dearly, but this time was a little rough. Of course I didn't hit her, and she is 100% safe and cared for. I will just be more cautious, and make sure no one else bothers her.

@susieq I have had cats my whole life ... and I also had kids... I had to put
the last cat to sleep because of his age .... 14 years but none ever bit me ... if you have a negleted cat they will need love from you ... if you ignore them they
will turn mean ...

@NJ99221 :
She has never been ignored. Most nights, she sleeps on my face. I have had cats since I was 3, with dogs, kids, fish, and all sorts of things. Amy is a different cat. I even managed to drag a mixed domestic/Saudi sand cat home with me, and she lived for 15 years. Most of the time, if I am sitting in my chair crocheting, Amy is on the back of the chair. I shower? She is on the vanity. No way no how has she ever been ignored or mistreated.

@susieq : Sorry about your troubles. We all know Amy is well cared for.Emoticon
Could it be her advanced years, that she acted out of character?
My daughter's Corgi, 14 yrs., has a new behaviour of getting snappy
at times. He goes to the vet almost weekly, laser therapy, checking
bumps and past dry skin, etc. He's becoming older so quickly.
Take care of yourself!
