I make bread, but I've never had luck with sourdough starter. Even the 'old' strains I bought straight from San Francisco. I love it, so I buy it.
@Blackbird : My son-in-law brought this starter to me last year. It's been in his family for many years and he introduced me to bread making. My first loaf turned out super sour and as hard as a rock. I cut that loaf into tiny pieces and spread it around the green area near my home. I don't think any animals would eat it either 😂
It took a lot of research and many loaves before I got the hang of it. Now, I can have a loaf done in about a half hour, not including the time to rise and bake. Plus, I have to feed the starter every week or two.
