An Update: "The plane was coming in from Alvin. It made a landing on one of the runways, once they touchdown it seemed to be that everything was okay, but there was some type of malfunction."

DPS says the aircraft was able to make a landing on the runway but says there was an issue with the landing gear. It caused the plane to crash into an embankment.

Standifer says two people were on the aircraft. The pilot was identified as a 58-year-old man. He died on the scene.
The other passenger was identified as a 38-year-old woman. Officials say she was able to leave the plane and was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The pilot and passenger were married for seven years, according to DPS.
DPS says there was severe impact to the floorboard of the aircraft and to the front of the fuselage.

"No plane crash is good but I looked in the front windshield and you can see the floorboard almost touching the instrument panel," Standifer said.

The FAA released a statement:

A single-engine PZL-104 Wilga crashed at the Pearland Regional Airport in Pearland, Texas at 2:54 p.m. local time today. Two persons were aboard. The FAA and the NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates.

Officials say the NTSB will be on the scene Sunday to investigate the crash.
