@Tom57 : My husband could probably help you...he did that at our other house. He has not done it here yet...usually doesn’t happen until he has to use it...lol

well if it gets too bad i maybe staying up at work last hurricane i was at work for 8 days straight!!

We have gone into a drought following a hurricane. After Ike(2008), drought lasted until 2013?. The longest drought started in 1949, ended in 1957. We normally have snow the winter following a hurricane, which we did. I certainly wouldn't put much faith in the weather folks, I don't recall them predicting Harvey this far out, do you?

@Tom57 : Hey Tom, I installed a transfer switch next to the breaker box to power the circuits we needed the most, i.e. fridge, some lights, some ac plugs for an a/c.Something like this one:
www.amazon.com/dp/B0 00HS2L3O/ref=asc_df_ B000HS2L3O5409033/?t ag=hyprod-20&crI had a buddy come over for dinner and some beer and he connected the switch to the circuit box for me since he was an electrician.I ran the cord through the attic to the covered patio where I can connect the generator fairly easily w/o getting drenched.A whole house generator is the way to go but this setup is the next best thing for the economically minded.

nooo. i was just thinking abt this season the other day, actually, & praying it won't be anything like last yr. ppl are still displaced fr. their homes since harvey & irma!
