It's also scary to think about what this kid was planning to do with it.

@tdwong1 : It's probable that the child is being bullied.

@davidpetersonharvey : There are quite a few problems with PISD. The "no tolerance" policy isn't being followed. Since the Christmas holidays, the junior high has had some fights in the hallway. The kids who started the fight are still in school. What happened to being expelled from school? Oh yeah - we don't want to inconvenience the parents. There is a student at my child's school who used the cell phone to video disrespecting the teacher in class and vlogged it - parent works at the district - so punishment might not happen or be a slap on the wrist. I'm sorry but the child broke school & district policy. It seems that the process is going to "be positive" and don't punish. If the process goes this way - I feel that it is only going to get worse.

@Soccer2018 : Where are the parents' responsibility in this? This kid got the weapon from somewhere, likely as not from home. Why are the parents not arrested along with the kid, if the weapon came from home?

I attended Pearland East JH in the 1971/1972 school year, graduating four years later from PHS. There were fights at that school at least monthly, and sometimes weekly. Some occurred inside the school, others happened over in Regency Park to avoid the school's authority. Fights happen at that age, no matter the level of security applies by the school. The consequences for them aren't happening often enough, and the parents aren't being held responsible by the school district for their kids' behavior.

I raised four kids in the Alvin school district and signed paperwork that the schools could apply corporal punishment to my kids should they misbehave. I also told my kids, "get pops in school, expect a whipping when I get home." I never had to act on that threat. I also did homework with my kids, and attended their school functions. If you choose to have kids, you take responsibility for their actions until the day you die. Raise them like you understand the meaning of that.

@PHS77 : I totally agree!! Pearland Police have been aware of some fights that were supposed to happen at the Burger King and made it known they would be there ready - nothing happened, except in the halls at school. Us parents who take time off work to attend school events and help their kiddos with school work (participating in our kid's life) when needed are getting tired of the kids whose parents don't care and are not being a part of their life getting away with bullying, fighting, disrespecting teachers, etc.. These parents probably have no idea what their child is doing. How can teachers do their job when their hands get tied. My child knows that if he disrespects anyone or gets in trouble at school - he will get in trouble at home. I have not had to act on it either. I get told he is one of the most polite and helpful students.....I have been thanked for raising him properly. I think the parents should be responsible too. I understand there are single parents and it's hard for them, but ask for help - don't see it as failure, but looking after your child.

This is nuts. Even crazier if the parents aren't locking up their firearms.

@Frodobaggins : Sad part is; even if the parents are locking up their firearms - if the child wants it bad enough he/she will find away.

@Soccer2018 : Fingerprint safe. They'd have to drag and drug them or cut off a finger to get in.

@Frodobaggins : How expensive is that? Maybe the parents can't afford it or if they already have a safe don't want to have to spend money on another one.......not sure and this by no means is an excuse.

@Frodobaggins : Maybe that's why, but if you own a gun - any kind - it should be securely put away; especially from young hands!!!! I'm glad the staff found out prior to something happening. My son went there and we know some kids that are currently there. Prayers that kids seek help not revenge!!
