After Susan Kunz purchased $1,000 in gift cards at a Houston Walmart, she checked to confirm the balance on each card. She was shocked to learn that one of the cards had already been drained.
We thought about giving the grands some cards this year, but decided to do cash instead. That way, they can decide what they want and where to buy it. GS at college is getting cash. His mom suggested fast food cards. No, he can eat where he wants with cash, or buy what he needs. It even seems safer.
@Txtoast : It might not be as convenient but maybe gift cards need to be kept behind the counter at Customer Service. Or have a special lane like they have for cigarettes. Keep the gift cards in a glass case and you would have to go to that lane to check out and purchase the gift card.

Seriously. Right now, if I want to buy most health and beauty supplies at my neighborhood Walmart, they're all locked up! Even the bottles of Tide are on anti-theft cables. When the first department stores opened back in The Gilded Age, most of the merchandise was out of reach and needed a salesperson to pass it to you to look at before purchase. Due to all this organized theft, we seem to be going back to that.
