On February 21, 2019, the Pearland Police Department hosted a retirement ceremony for Pearland Police Officer Rick Bort. Family, friends, local dignitaries, and co-workers were on hand to bid him a bittersweet farewell. Chief of Police J. Spires shared heartfelt personal stories about Officer Bort and Mayor Tom Reid read a Proclamation declaring February 21, 2019, Officer Rick Bort Day in the City of Pearland. Officer Bort has served Pearland as a police officer for past 30 years. Officer Bort is a founding member of the Combined Agency Response Team (SWAT) that began in 1992.
