Each year, the City of Pearland's Natatorium closes during the month of August to allow for maintenance, cleaning and repairs. This year's extended closure will occur from Monday, August 5th to Tuesday, August 27th, due to the renovation of the Natatorium's pool deck and locker rooms. The Natatorium will reopen on Wednesday, August 28th.Despite the closure, Recreation Center and Natatorium members will continue to have access to a pool during this time. Members will be able to utilize the pool at the Vic Coppinger Family YMCA at no additional cost. Pool access includes water fitness classes, lap swim, and open swim. Members must show their keytag to YMCA staff.Residents can also cool down at the splash pads located at both Centennial and Southdown parks.This year's maintenance will include the organization and cleaning of pump and chemical rooms; daily checks of pool water chemistry and filtration system; deep cleaning of all natatorium equipment, offices and the meet room; painting of the meet room; and backwash of both pools.In addition to the above maintenance, a contractor will oversee the renovation of the natatorium pool deck. The existing deck surface shows significant signs of wear and the new deck will improve safety, functionality, and provide a refreshed look.www.pearlandtx.gov
