Sheriff's Son, 21, Passed Away From Rare Condition After Intense Training Austin Stallman, the 21 year old son of Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, after spending two weeks in the hospital. On September 15, Austin was running nine miles as part of a Texas A&M program that prepares students who hope to become Navy SEALs. During the run, he suffered heatstroke and was rushed to the hospital. According to WTAW radio in College Station, his condition then turned into rhabdomyolysis, a rare but very dangerous illness that can be triggered by extreme exercise. Rhabdomyolysis happens when muscle tissue breaks down quickly and releases harmful proteins into the blood. Normally, the kidneys clean these substances out of the body. However, when too much muscle breaks down at once, the kidneys can't keep up, which can lead to kidney damage or even kidney failure. The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office confirmed the heatstroke, and a GoFundMe page created to help the family pay medical bills confirmed the rhabdomyolysis diagnosis. News of Austin's death has deeply saddened the community. Manvel Mayor Dan Davis shared his grief online, noting how many people had been praying for Austin and how much the Stallman family has given to Brazoria County. The Sheriff's Office also thanked residents for the love and support they have shown the family during this painful time, saying that support has helped keep both the department and the Stallmans strong. The office asked the community to continue praying for the family.
