Speed Traps in Pearland.

I believe the Pearland police department knowingly enforce inappropriate speed limits in several locations around Pearland. Is this something done to meet quotas on tickets issued out by individual officers? Or is this something that is implemented by the city to boost revenue?
I was pulled over today on the way to work in an uninhabited portion of Kingsley Rd. North of Shadow Creek Parkway on a road with 2 lanes divided by median, the speed limit is 30 mph which seems inappropriately low. A Motorcycle police officer was hiding in between the trees in the median and jumped out in traffic to stop me for speeding. 40 mph. The speed limit actually increases from 30 to 35 once you cross the bridge from Pearland into Harris county. I know there are other spots in the city that the speed limits seem very low. Is this done on purpose to build revenue or do I just need to slow down?

@DrewLundgren : Thanks, I didn't feel I was being reckless by going 40 mph. I wish there was a way to fight this ticket on the basis of the speed limit being set too low for the area.

@MalluGuy : I'm sorry to hear you got a ticket this morning. Can you talk to someone at Pearland Municipal Court or request to dismiss it by taking defensive driving?

I have absolutely no educated answer, but my complete and total guess is that the zoning is for residential or mass commercial or something that dictates a 30 mph zone. It's much easier to set the zone and leave it, than to decrease it when the population density of the area warrants it.
Just my thoughts.

Read your ticket carefully. A friend got off on one because the ticket said she was "going south" on a road that runs east to west. There are lots of areas around town I get impatient going the speed limit.

and to me.. within 10mph... specially not heavily traffic.. isn't speeding...

@MalluGuy : Man, check your ticket with a "fine tooth comb", if you find any mistakes, I'm pretty sure you can get it dismissed due to "officer error". The ticket I got was dismissed because the address location of the ticket...the cop forgot to put 1 of the numbers in the address where the speed was clocked. It was 10010 __________ block, he put 1010____________, no such address. Dismissed. One of my old boss's had his dismissed because the cop added an extra # to his TDL # when he wrote out the ticket. Dismissed

@MalluGuy : Same thing on Magnolia east of 288. Ridiculous to have 30 mile per hour speed limit there as is the location you mentioned.

Sorry for your hassle. Personally, I would pay Pearland to put an cop car in my driveway as a deterrent to speeders. I live on a residential side street that is clearly marked 30 mph, which is too fast to begin with for the street, and folks go through at significantly higher rates. Having to get me and the dog out of the way is more cardio than I need!!
